- 1 sack of chicken manure.
- 1 sack of bran.
- 30 kg of green natural materials (straw, banana leaf, leguminous leaves).
- 100 grams of brown sugar.
- 50 ml of bioactivator (EM4).
- Clean water.
- 100-liter soundproof plastic barrel with a perforated lid.
- Transparent aerator hose (0.5 cm diameter).
- Used a 1-liter plastic bottle.
The tools and materials above can be used to make approximately 50–60 liters of liquid organic fertilizer, depending on the water added. So, don't hesitate to adjust the amount of ingredients according to your needs and availability at home.
2. Puree the Organic Materials to be Used
Puree all the organic materials you have prepared by cutting them into smaller pieces. It doesn't need to be too smooth, just make sure the size is easy to mix with other ingredients later.
3. Dissolve Bioactivator Ingredients
Dissolve bioactivators such as EM4 in water at a dose of 10-20 ml per liter of water. After it is well mixed, add brown sugar about 1–2 tablespoons per liter of water, and stir again until it blends well. After the mixture is fully dispersed, wait for 30 minutes before continuing to the next step.
4. Mix Organic Materials, Activator Solution, and Water
After 30 minutes, put all the mashed organic materials into the plastic barrel you have prepared. Then, add water until all the organic materials are submerged.
After adding water, add the activator solution that you have made earlier to the organic material mixture.
5. Fermentation Process of Liquid Organic Fertilizer
After all the ingredients have been put into the barrel, close the barrel tightly and attach the hose to the hole in the barrel lid. Make sure the hole is the same size as the diameter of the hose so that no air can enter the barrel.
Insert the other end of the hose into a bottle filled with water to stabilize the temperature by removing the gas produced during the fermentation process. This process will also help ensure that no air can enter the barrel. Once done, wait for the fermentation process to take 7–10 days.
6. Harvesting Liquid Organic Fertilizer
After 7–10 days, check the maturity of the fermentation process by smelling the plastic barrel. If the smell produced resembles the smell of tape, then the fertilizer mixture is ready for use.
Separate the liquid from the dregs by filtering. Preferably, use a cloth strainer so that the liquid and dregs of the fertilizer can be separated perfectly. The resulting dregs can be used as solid organic fertilizer or compost mixture.
Put the filtered liquid in a bottle, then close it tightly. The liquid organic fertilizer can now be used. If you store it properly, liquid organic fertilizer can be used for approximately 6 months.
