Mineral and bottled water are sometimes used interchangeably to refer to bottled drinking water. However, the two terms have different meanings.
What Is the Difference Between Mineral Water and Bottled Water?
Based on the Indonesian National Standard (SNI), bottled water, also known as drinking water in packaging (AMDK) or packaged drinking water, is water that has been processed and presented in plastic or glass packaging, and is safe to drink.
Generally, the water undergoes certain procedures before being packaged, such as distillation, filtration, purification, or fluoridation. The aim is to remove components that are not good for the body and make it ready to drink.
Meanwhile, mineral water is one type of water that can be packaged (bottled water). Apart from mineral water, there are several other types of bottled drinking water, namely demineralized water, oxygenated water, and alkaline water.
Bottled Mineral Water
As the name suggests, mineral water is water that contains water-soluble minerals. These minerals can be salts, sulfur, or others.
According to the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM), natural mineral water is drinking water obtained directly from natural sources through a controlled process.
This is to avoid contamination that can affect the chemical, physical, and microbiological properties of natural mineral water. But actually, almost all types of drinking water contain minerals, although the amount varies.
Natural mineral water is obtained from underground water sources. Although natural mineral water does not go through a certain process, the quality is still thoroughly checked to ensure that it meets the standards that are good for consumption.
So, where does mineral water come from? Sources of mineral water include springs, some lakes, and clean wells.
One of the quality bottled mineral waters is AQUA. AQUA is a healthy mineral water that contains natural minerals from 19 selected and protected mountains in Indonesia.
AQUA’s water source is taken from the deepest part of the mountains, which has a protective layer so that it is free from pollution. Because of this, AQUA tastes naturally cold without the need to be stored in the refrigerator first.

This is an explanation of the differences between mineral water and bottled water. In addition, you also need to pay attention to the source, process, and consumption of the water. Does the water you drink have additional minerals? What is its composition? Make sure you know it.
That was all the difference between mineral water and bottled water. Additionally, it’s important to consider the source, processing, and consumption of the water. Also, before you take a sip, ask yourself: Does this water have added minerals? What’s in it? Make sure you’re well informed!
