How to Overcome Constant Thirst? Find Out Here!

Feeling thirsty after a morning run or eating spicy food is a normal condition. It is a natural reaction when the body needs fluids to facilitate metabolic processes. However, if the feeling of thirst persists throughout the day, it can become very uncomfortable and disruptive to daily activities. So, how to overcome constant thirst?

This time, AQUA will discuss ways to overcome constant thirst and some possible causes of it. So, make sure to read it till the end!

How to Overcome Constant Thirst

Constant thirst can indeed often ruin your mood. If you are experiencing it, try following these ways to overcome constant thirst:

1. Reduce Salt and Spice Intake

It is rarely realized that salty and spicy foods can make you feel thirsty. Why is that? The hypothalamus, the part of the brain that controls thirst, detects high sodium levels in your blood.

As a result, blood pressure increases, which can strain the heart. In this case, the kidneys compensate by expelling excess fluid, prompting us to urinate.

Therefore, one way to address persistent thirst is to reduce intake of salt and spices.

2. Increase Fruit and Vegetable Intake

Most types of fruits and vegetables have a high water content. That is why increasing your intake of fruits and vegetables is a suitable way to eliminate constant thirst, along with drinking water.

For options, you can try cucumbers, watermelons, oranges, starfruit, tomatoes, spinach, carrots, kiwis, grapes, pineapples, and others.

3. Chew Gum

One way to overcome the constant feeling of thirst and frequent urination is to chew gum.

Although the mouth is generally always moist, the fluid in the mouth evaporates very easily. Therefore, the body will always make you drink enough to maintain a wet mouth.

In this case, one way to address constant thirst is by chewing gum. Chewing gum helps increase saliva production, maintaining oral moisture and preventing you from feeling thirsty easily.

4. Follow Medical Treatment Recommendations

When facing health issues, it is advisable always to follow the medical treatment recommendations provided by your doctor. Some medical treatments can cause side effects that lead to dehydration.

This means that by following your treatment properly, the likelihood of side effects can be minimized as much as possible. So even though it is not directly related, treating the underlying illness in your body is one way to address persistent thirst.

5. Drink More Water

Although it sounds simple, drinking 2 liters of water a day is still the best way to overcome constant thirst. Unfortunately, some people prefer to drink sweetened beverages because water is considered tasteless or bland.

However, there are numerous health benefits to drinking water. Especially if the water is of high quality, like AQUA, which maintains its freshness all the way to your hands. Causes of Constant Thirst

Even if you drink plenty of water, you may still feel constantly thirsty. If so, there may be several causes of constant thirst, including:

  • Dry mouth. This condition can be caused by extremely hot weather or as a side effect of certain medications such as Claritin and Benadryl (allergy medications).
  • Anemia. When the body loses red blood cells, it tries to replenish them, which triggers thirst.
  • Menstruation. The increased levels of progesterone and estrogen during menstruation can affect the body's fluid volume.
  • Stress. This condition can disrupt the adrenal glands, leading to lowered blood pressure, which in turn causes thirst.
  • Dehydration. This occurs when the body lacks fluids. Dehydration stimulates brain receptors that increase thirst.
  • Pregnancy. Pregnant women often feel thirsty and have frequent urination.
  • Certain foods. Some foods, such as salty and spicy dishes, can make the body feel thirsty more quickly.
  • Side effects of medications. Some medications, such as lithium and diuretics, can cause thirst as a side effect.
  • Diabetes mellitus. A disorder involving insulin hormones, preventing blood from being absorbed by muscles.
  • Diabetes insipidus. A deficiency in antidiuretic hormones leads to frequent urination.

When Should You See a Doctor?

If your condition does not improve even after drinking enough water and trying the methods above to deal with constant thirst, you should see a doctor right away. Especially if you have any of these symptoms:

  • Constant thirst, along with a dry throat and changes in body temperature.
  • Blurred vision, along with excessive hunger.
  • You urinate more frequently, approximately every hour.
  • Feeling weak.

These are how to overcome constant thirst that you can try if you happen to experience it. As the saying goes, prevention is better than cure. So before it becomes a problem, make it a habit to always drink AQUA healthy drinking water before starting any activity. Stay healthy and see you soon!
