FIFA world rankings are an important benchmark for assessing the strength of national teams in international football.
The system is managed by FIFA and is used to measure each country’s performance, while also affecting various official competitions.
However, the calculation method often changes and is still considered confusing by some fans.
Most recently, FIFA released the rankings on April 1, 2026, following the international break. France returned to the top spot in the world rankings, while Vietnam broke into the top 100. So, where does the Indonesian national team stand?

What Is FIFA?
FIFA stands for Fédération Internationale de Football Association, the international organization that governs football worldwide.
The organization is headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, and was founded on May 21, 1904, in France by seven countries, including France, the Netherlands, and Switzerland.
As the global governing body of football, FIFA plays a major role, from organizing international tournaments like the FIFA World Cup, which is held every four years, to setting the official rules of the game, including the use of VAR technology.
In addition, FIFA actively develops football through youth player development, coaching, and infrastructure.
Beyond competitions, FIFA also works with national federations in each country, including PSSI in Indonesia, and promotes the values of peace and unity through sport.
FIFA World Rankings 2026 List
The FIFA world rankings are a system used by FIFA to rank the strength of national teams from its 211 member countries.
These rankings are updated regularly based on the results of official international matches previously played by each team.
Since being first introduced in 1992, the system has undergone several changes.
It initially used a points accumulation method, but since 2018 it has adopted the Elo rating system to provide a more accurate assessment of team strength. Even so, the system still often sparks debate.
In general, teams with the best performance occupy the top positions. Historically, only eight countries have reached the top spot, including Brazil, Argentina, and France.
In addition to tracking team progress, the FIFA rankings are also used to determine seedings in major tournaments, such as the FIFA World Cup and other international competitions.

The Garuda squad recorded a dominant 4–0 win over St Kitts and Nevis, earning an additional 3.96 points.
However, a narrow 1–0 loss to Bulgaria caused Indonesia to lose 3.81 points, slightly reducing its total score.
Meanwhile, Vietnam saw a significant rise, climbing nine places to 99th in the world after gaining 36.17 points.
In contrast, Malaysia experienced the sharpest drop, falling 17 places to 138th after losing 59.76 points.
