Want to learn more about the bromate content in AQUA and the safe limits in drinking water? Let's check out the following review until the end!
What Is Bromate?
Before discussing the bromate content in AQUA, it is important for you to first understand what bromate is. Essentially, bromate is a substance that generally forms in water during the ozonation process when bromide ions are present.
For your information, ozonation is a treatment process used to reduce organic substances found in raw water. Its function is to remove taste, color, and odor from the water, making it purer.
However, this process can also bind bromide ions, causing the water to contain bromate.
The formation of bromate in drinking water can be influenced by various factors, including the concentration of bromide ions, the amount of ozone, the pH level of the water source, and the reaction time used to disinfect the water.
According to the Department of Health New York State’s official website, every mineral water contains bromate. Nevertheless, this compound is carcinogenic (can trigger cancer growth) and can increase the risk of kidney disorders, especially if its levels in the body exceed the normal limit.
Therefore, the WHO (World Health Organization) has set a safe limit for bromate content in mineral water. The safe limit for bromate content in mineral water established by the WHO is a maximum of 1 microgram/liter or 0.01 milligrams/liter.

Bromate Content in AQUA
As previously explained, every drinking water contains bromate. However, it is very important to pay attention to whether the bromate content in drinking water complies with the limits set by the WHO to ensure its safety.
So, how much bromate is in AQUA? You don’t need to worry about the bromate content in AQUA. As a bottled drinking water product (AMDK) with maintained quality, AQUA always conducts regular checks to ensure that the bromate content in AQUA remains well below the limits set by the WHO.
This has also been proven through the results of testing AQUA drinking water at the Testing Laboratory of the Center for Standardization and Industrial Service of the Agro Industry, Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia.
The test results show that the bromate content in AQUA is less than 0.0008 mg/L (PT. Tirta Investama) and < 0.0004 mg/L (PT. Tirta Sibayakindo), which means it is well below the safe limit for bromate in drinking water (maximum 0.01 mg/L). This means that AQUA products are safe from bromate.
